We hope this email finds you and your family healthy and happy. This school year we have continued with the healthy living initiative. We teach the children about portion control, healthy snacks, and foods that are beneficial to them. In doing this we ask the children not to bring unhealthy snacks to school. We allow for one day per week (Fridays) in which they can have a small unhealthy snack. This is why we sell ice cream on Fridays as an option. We ask the children to put away any sugary, salty, and/or oily snacks they bring in with them from Monday - Thursday. We also encourage the students to move throughout the day. We use the Move to Improve curriculum, the students take turns going out at recess, and we have a vigorous PE class. We have after school gym classes and cooking classes, all in an effort to educate the students in healthy living.
We are once again allowing visitors into our school. You are welcome to come to PS13Q for scheduled meetings with a teacher or staff member and to conduct PS13Q business. We ask that you show your vaccine card along with your identification card at the door. If you do not have a vaccine card, we can help you at the main entrance door from 8:30-10:00. Unfortunately, we do not have the staff members available at the main entrance. We also ask that you inform the teacher when you need to pick your child up early. This will make the process go faster. After 2:00pm we will not be able to accommodate you with early pick up. From 2:00pm until the last child is picked up, we are in dismissal procedures. It would be dangerous to all the children if we are constantly disrupting these procedures to accommodate an early pick up.
Lastly, we would like to remind you to fill out the health screeners at home every morning. We ask that you fill it out via the iPad app. The children have been shown how to access the screener and are capable of doing so.
Thank you for understanding and cooperation. We can be reached through the school website: ps13queens.com
